Project Information

Jefferson City Library

This state-of-the-art facility garnered as “a tremendous addition to the County, a showcase” is the last puzzle piece in completing the town square.  MBI’s goal was to design an inviting community space for Jefferson County youth to gather and learn in a creative environment.  With a design intent of fresh, progressive, and multi-purpose, the interior is filled with fun, vibrant colors mixed with contemporary and rustic finishes making each visit an experience for patrons.

Studies have shown that color can enhance learning and influence moods in an educational setting.  Throughout the interior, a variety of colors are used from the furniture and floor tiles to wall accents.

Blues enhance a sense of well-being.  Yellow encourages creativity. Orange increases alertness while green and purple creates calmness.

Children meet for story time in an area filled with small, fun furnishings. Teens socialize at the coffee bar and lounge areas or study at the computer tables. Adults utilize the large community and conference rooms for meetings and gatherings.  A stone fireplace and outdoor patio create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere.

Special touches include curved, translucent 3-Form acrylic panels made with shredded magazines to add coffee bar interest. Famous author quotes were incorporated into custom 3-Form Chroma panels for use as artwork. Meeting the newest energy codes, windows were installed using Smart Glass or self-tinting electrochromic glazing.  This automatically darkens windows to match exterior lighting conditions reducing the amount of solar heat gain and glare within the building.
